A thousand years ago, there were pre-hispanic settlements and sites of importance around what is now Puerto Escondido. But Puerto Escondido did not exist as a modern town until the 1920's. When the owners of the great coffee fincas in the foothills decided that the protected bay of Puerto made an ideal and convenient port for shipping coffee, and other regional products.
There was also access to Oaxaca by trails, and later by unpaved roads, so there was also a flow of people and goods between Puerto Escondido and the Capital, Oaxaca de Juárez.

There have been several recent changes at our hotel, Robert Lepe, son of Dr. Victor Lepe is now the new manager of the Hotel, the hotel now has a beautiful new building for groups which is a large open air palapa with two stories and a beautiful view. This new space is perfectly suited to art workshops, yoga classes and conventions.

Two new two bedroom luxury suites have been added to the bungalows Santa Cruz, these bungalows share a new private swimming pool, and some of the most spectacular views of Puerto Escondido.
We also now have car, bicycle and kayak rentals available and Eco tour packages will soon be available for an excellent insight into places of interest, birdlife and wildlife of Puerto Escondido.
